Molding

Overview

Molding is a versatile manufacturing process that involves shaping a material (typically a polymer) into a specific form using a mold. This process is commonly used to produce complex parts with high precision by pouring a liquid material into a mold. Creating the mold involves considering various factors that enhance the part's manufacturability, minimize the risk of structural defects, and effectively address potential production issues.

Manufacturing Toolkit contains tools that allow to recognize molding features produced by Molding process and analyze them for possible design issues. However, models that are passed to the Manufacturing Toolkit should meet a certain requirements:

  • Only B-Rep representations of a model can be analyzed (ModelData::Solid )
  • It is better not to include features, manufactured with different processes than Molding, in a model. Otherwise, they can be misrecognized as Molding.
